Broxbourne is a commuter town within the Broxbourne borough of Hertfordshire in the East of England which has a population of approximately 13,298 as measured in 2001. The town is twinned with the Sicilian city of Sutera. The name Broxbourne is believed to find its origins in the Old English words brocc and burna which means Badger stream. The Manor of Broxbourne is mentioned in the Domesday Book, which names Broxbourne Mill. The area was mined for its gravel and sand in the 20th century.
