Catterick Garrison is a significant garrison and town located 3 miles south of Richmond in the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire, England. The town lies in the Central Richmondshire electoral division of North Yorkshire County Council and divided among the Hipswell and Scotton wards of Richmondshire District Council. The town is divided amongst two civil parishes. The southern part of the town, south of a small stream known as Leadmill Gill, is within the civil parish of Scotton. The northern part forms the greater part of the civil parish of Hipswell. Each parish has its own parish council. It is the biggest British Army garrison in the world, having a population of around 13000 and measuring over 2400 acres. The original intention for Catterick was to be a temporary camp to accommodate two full divisions with around 40000 men in 2000 huts. However, under plans announced by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in November 2005, the population of Catterick Garrison is expected to develop to over 25000 by 2020, making it the biggest population centre inside the local area. Lacking a real town centre, the Garrison gained its 1st big supermarket in 2000, together with a retail park referred to as ‘Richmondshire Walk’, which also contains a McDonalds, a Poundstretcher and a Peacocks, amongst other shops. ‘Catterick Leisure Centre’ is a purpose built centre opposite the retail park, opened in July 2009, and it offers a broad spectrum of leisure and fitness facilities such as a swimming pool, along with a gym, and also an adjoining public library. For all your property upgrades, be certain that you employ trustworthy specialists in Catterick Garrison to make sure you get the best quality.
