Bingley is a market town in the metropolitan borough of the City of Bradford located in West Yorkshire, England. The town sits on the River Aire plus the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, and is situated in Airedale on the south of Ilkley Moor. The population has recently witnessed a drop, having a population of 19,884 in 2001 and decreasing to approximately 18,000 as recorded in the 2011 Census. The meaning of the town’s name is interpreted as ‘Bing’s Clearing’ and originates from the Saxon language. The town’s first settlement served the ford across the River Aire at the narrowest point of the Aire Valley, and Ireland Bridge was created in 1986 with the intention of changing the ford. A lot of the older history of the town is still present within the town, for example the Bingley Grammar School, founded during the 16th century, which is considered to be one of the oldest schools in the country. Bingley is home to an abundance of local retailers, a street market, banks and the ‘Little Theatre’. There are also efficient transport links in the town, with a railway station positioned in the town centre along with the Leeds Bradford Airport being in close proximity to the town. Barges on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal pass the Bingley Five Rise Locks, with guests often observing barges navigating the locks. Because of its largely unspoilt habitat, walking and cycling in the town is popular, and golfers can play at the Bingley St. Ives Golf Club. A yearly music festival, Bingley Music Live, is hosted from Myrtle Park, providing an array of good quality music attracting a significant audience. For all your home upgrades, be certain that you choose trustworthy specialists in Bingley to make sure you get the very best quality service.
