Horley is a town in Surrey that borders Surrey and West Sussex. It is south of the twin towns of Reigate and Redhill, and neighbouring Gatwick Airport and Crawley. The town is at an elevation of around 54 metres above mean sea level and encompasses 4.34 square miles. It has a population of 21232. The Horley Master Plan, passed by Reigate and Banstead Borough Council in February 2005, permits for the building and construction of roughly 2600 brand-new homes. This will cover the Metropolitan Green Belt, which is allowed if the regional plan meets nationwide requirements, such as the capability to demonstrate environmental sustainability and keeping the character of localities. Owing to regular and quick train connections to London from Horley Railway Station, Horley qualifies as a commuter town. 2 thirds of the working population commute to London or Crawley, with the remaining one 3rd working regionally. Horley has a considerable economy of its own, including the presence of business parks and a long high street including industrial chain stores and independent services. It was the home of the Matbro works, which produced forklift trucks between the 1950s and the 1980s and founded telescopic handlers, which were incredibly popular with farmers and development business. A popular attraction is the Archway Theatre, found under the arches of the Victoria Road railway bridge; the theatre consists of a bar, an auditorium with a seat capacity of 95, and a studio theatre seating 40 people.
