The London Borough of Bromley is amongst the 32 London Boroughs which make up Greater London. The London Borough of Bromley is south of the River Thames which flows via London, the capital city of the United Kingdom. The borough was formed, as were all other London boroughs, on 1 April 1965 by the London Government Act 1963. Bromley is the principal town in the London Borough of Bromley. It covers a total area of around 57.97 square miles. Around 32.5 percent own their property outright and also a further 42.73 per cent own their property with a mortgage. A lot of the population lives in the north and west of the borough, with an outlier at Biggin Hill within the far south. The borough shares borders with the London Boroughs of Lewisham and Greenwich towards the North, Bexley to the North East, Southwark and Lambeth towards the North West, as well as Croydon to the West. Bromley is one of only six London Boroughs not to have at least 1 London Underground station inside its boundaries. Even so, the borough has numerous railway stations served by London Overground, Thameslink, Southeastern and Southern. The borough also has many stops on the London Tramlink network.
