The London Borough of Enfield is a London borough in north London with a few districts within the borough straddling north-east London, England. It borders the London Boroughs of Barnet (towards the west), Haringey (towards the south) and Waltham Forest (towards the south-east), the districts of Hertsmere (towards the north-west), Welwyn Hatfield and Broxbourne (each towards the north) in Hertfordshire, and Epping Forest (to the east) in Essex. The local authority is Enfield Council. It covers a total area of 31.74 square miles.
Based on population estimates in the middle of 2014, the borough features a permanent population of about 324574 inhabitants. The present borough was created in 1965 in the former areas of the Municipal Borough of Southgate, the Municipal Borough of Enfield and also the Municipal Borough of Edmonton. The Borough’s Civic Centre is located in Silver Street, Enfield Town and is the location of the Council. Enfield Town is also home to the nearby credit union, North London Credit Union.
In 2007, Enfield Town centre completed a significant redevelopment project. An extension was added onto the current retail area with quite a few new shops. Along with this, a significant redevelopment of Edmonton Green, including the shopping centre, an adjacent municipal housing over a wide area, began in 1999 in order to deliver new housing, health facilities, a brand new leisure centre, a supermarket, and a lot of other civic features.
