Birchington-on-Sea is a village within north east Kent, England. It is a part of the Thanet district and forms part of the civil parish of Birchington. The museum contains a sizeable collection of stuffed exotic animals collected by Major Percy Powell-Cotton on his travels in Africa, and also houses artifacts unearthed in and around Birchington by his daughter, Antoinette Powell-Cotton, a keen archaeologist. At the 2011 census, the village had approximately 9,961 residents and approximately 5,000 households.
