Belvedere is a town in south east London, England in the London Borough of Bexley. It is positioned south east of Thamesmead and is found approximately 12 miles (19 km) southeast of Charing Cross. Belvedere was in Kent, and postally remains so. It formed a part of the Municipal Borough of Erith prior to 1965 and development took place prior to the Second World War, with considerable rebuilding after the Blitz. Despite this, Upper Belvedere and the Village still preserves much of its Victorian and Edwardian appeal and character. Upper Belvedere boasts a church and several Victorian and Edwardian brick villas. It boasts a number of regular pubs, restaurants and retail outlets. These include The Eardley Arms on Woolwich Road, The Vic on Victoria Street, The Royal Standard in the centre of the village and also the Fox in Belvedere village. Upper Belvedere is also home to a large sized park and a library that was close to being shut because of local government cuts.
