Langport is a village and civil parish in Somerset, England, 5 miles (8.0 km) west of Somerton in the South Somerset area. The church (which covers just part of the town) has a population of 1,081. Langport is contiguous with Huish Episcopi, a separate parish that consists of much of the community’s borders. Langport rests on the east financial institution of the River Parrett, below the point where that river is joined by the River Yeo (Ivel). There is an embankment across the moor as well as an essential bridge over the river. Below Langport the Parrett is tidal. The rivers flow from the southerly hillsides through Thorney Moor and also Kings Moor, with a gap in between the upland locations around Somerton as well as Curry Rivel, onto the Somerset Levels through which it flows past Bridgwater to the Bristol Channel. Throughout the wintertime the low-lying areas around Langport are in some cases swamped. The town falls within the Non-metropolitan area of South Somerset, which was based on 1 April 1974 under the City Government Act 1972, having previously been part of Langport Rural District. The area council is in charge of local preparation and structure control, regional roads, council real estate, ecological health and wellness, markets and fairs, decline collection as well as recycling, burial grounds as well as crematoria, leisure solutions, parks, as well as tourist.
