Guisborough is a market town and civil parish in the English county of North Yorkshire. It is within a unitary authority of Redcar and Cleveland, and in the Trees Valley region of the North East of England. Chiefly for ceremonial purposes, it is in the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire. Held every Thursday and Saturday, and even on Tuesdays with the participation of a few stalls, Guisborough market has had a popular place in the history of the town. Originally offering mostly cattle and livestock, the market slowly evolved into a more basic market for such items as vegetables and fruit, clothing and flower stalls. It is held from the morning to late afternoon on the cobbles that line Westgate, the main shopping street. Thanks to its spot close to the ironstone mines of the North York Moors, the town also had a share in the prosperity of the Industrial Revolution. In accordance with the 2011 Census, the permanent population of the town is around 17777.
