Darvel or Dervel (population 3,361) is a village in East Ayrshire, Scotland. It goes to the eastern end of the Irvine Valley and is in some cases described as “The Lang Toon” (English: the Long Town). The community’s Latin slogan, Non sibi sed cunctis, means “Not for ourselves, however, for others”. Darvel is situated on the A71 road that runs from Irvine on the west coast to Edinburgh on the east. The community is 9 miles (14 km) eastern of Kilmarnock and also is the most eastern of the Valley Towns, the others being Galston and also Newmilns.
