Cardigan is a town and community in the county of Ceredigion in Wales. The town pushes a tidal reach of the River Teifi at the factor where Ceredigion, previously Cardiganshire, meets Pembrokeshire. Cardigan was the county town of the historic region and also is the second-largest town in Ceredigion. The settlement at Cardigan was established around the Norman castle integrated in the late 11th or early 12th century. The castle was the location of the initial National Eisteddfod in 1176. The town came to be an important port in the 18th century, yet declined by the very early 20th century owing to its superficial harbour. The castle went through remediation in 2014. The population in 2001 was 4,203, reducing a little to 4,184 at the 2011 census. Modern Cardigan is a small and active community, having a lot of the facilities for retail, education and learning, wellness, worship and sport.
