Alexandria is a town in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland. The town is positioned on the River Leven, 4 miles (six kilometres) north-west of Dumbarton. In 2001, the population of the town was 13,444. It’s the largest town inside the Vale of Leven. Alexandria developed as a consequence of the textile market. In 1715, the very first bleachfields in the area were established at Dalquhurn, attracting seasonal labour from Argyll. As trade between Scotland and the US grew, cotton was increasingly imported and processed in and around Glasgow. Quickly, textile work in the Vale grew from just bleaching fabric to dying and printing it too. The town’s traditional industries, most of all cotton manufacturing, bleaching and printing, have been phased out. The town was redeveloped during the 1970s with a new town centre layout and traffic system. Nearby landmarks include Christie Park as well as the fountain in the town centre. Alexandria is located on the former A82 main road between Glasgow and Loch Lomond. There are frequent bus services on the route and the town has a railway station on the rail line in between Balloch and Glasgow Queen Street. The town is well-known as the only UK town with a railway station and a pub in the center of a roundabout. The author A. J. Cronin’s uncle owned a pub in Bridge Street. Alexandria Library is located on Gilmour Street. The town is home to the Vale of Leven football club, who play at Millburn Park. The club were a dominant force in early Scottish football history, winning the Scottish Cup in 1877, 1878 and 1879, and were founder members of the Scottish Football League. For all of your house renovations, make certain that you use trustworthy pros in Alexandria to ensure you get the very best quality service.
