Birchington-on-Sea is a village in north east Kent, England. It is a part of the Thanet district and part of the civil parish of Birchington. The museum contains a considerable collection of stuffed exotic animals collected by Major Percy Powell-Cotton on his travels in Africa, and also houses artifacts unearthed in and around Birchington by his daughter, Antoinette Powell-Cotton, a keen archaeologist. At the 2011 census, the village had 10,000 residents and around 4,944 households. As a seaside resort, the village has an economy based around tourism, with a number of hotels, caravan parks and leisure attractions.
