Crickhowell is a village and community in southeastern Powys, Wales, near Abergavenny, and was in the historic area of Brecknockshire. The name Crickhowell is extracted from that of the close-by Iron Age hill fort of Crug Hywel above the community, the Welsh language name being anglicised by map-makers and local English-speaking people. The town rests on the River Usk, on the southerly side of the Black Hills as well as in the eastern part of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Substantial parts of the surrounding countryside, over 20,000 acres (81 km2) form part of the Glanusk Park estate. A selecting ward in the exact same name exists. This ward includes The Vale of Grwyney community as well as has a total population of 2,801 as taken at the 2011 census. The current councillor is John Morris, a Liberal Democrat.
