Abbots Langley is a big village in Hertfordshire in England with a population of 10,472. It is neighbours with Watford and many people commute there, and it used to be part of the Watford Rural District. It is now in the Three Rivers District.
The first record of the village is in 1045 and it is mentioned in the Domesday book, which recorded that 19 families lived there at the time. The village sits on clay, so the water supply is ample.
Abbots Langley is likely to be most famous for being the birthplace of Pope Adrian IV, the only Englishman to ever become Pope. He was born Nicholas Breakspear in around 1100.
The village has a Methodist Church as well as the Church of St Lawrence the Martyr which has a 12th-century tower and Norman arches.
To the south of Abbots Langley are Leavesden Film Studios, located on the former Rolls-Royce airfield. Scenes from films such as GoldenEye and Harry Potter have been filmed there.
