Alexandria is a town in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland. The town is positioned on the River Leven, four miles (6 km) north-west of Dumbarton. In 2001, the population of the town was 13,444. It is the biggest town in the Vale of Leven. Alexandria developed due to the textile sector. In 1715, the first bleachfields in the area were started at Dalquhurn, attracting seasonal labour from Argyll.
