Bingley is a market town within the metropolitan borough of the City of Bradford located in West Yorkshire, England. The town is positioned on the River Aire plus the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, and is situated in Airedale on the south of Ilkley Moor. In recent years, the population has decreased, having a population of around 20,000 in 2001 and decreasing to around 18,294 in the 2011 Census. The definition of the town’s name is often thought to be ‘Bing’s Clearing’ and finds its origins in Saxon. The town’s original settlement served the ford across the River Aire at the narrowest point of the Aire Valley, and Ireland Bridge was constructed in 1986 with the intention of replacing the ford. Much of the older history of the town remains present in the town, for example the Bingley Grammar School, established in the 16th century, which is believed to be one of the oldest schools in the country. Bingley has an abundance of local stores, a street market, banks as well as the ‘Little Theatre’. There are also effective transportation links available, with a railway station in the town centre as well as Leeds Bradford Airport close by. Barges on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal pass the Bingley Five Rise Locks, with people frequently viewing barges navigating the locks. Due to its mainly unspoilt habitat, walking and cycling in the town is popular, and golfers can play at the Bingley St. Ives Golf Club. An annual music festival, Bingley Music Live, is hosted from Myrtle Park, offering a range of good quality music which attracts a varied audience. For all your house improvements, be certain that you choose reputable pros in Bingley to ensure you get a good quality service.
